This weekend, the Grosvenor Casino Sheffield Knights travel to Gateshead to take part in the eagerly awaited Fantastic Fours tournament. This is one of the highlight weekends for many players, despite a short benched team becoming even shorter through multiple injuries in last years tournament. Saturday 18th sees a Round Robin group stage. Sunday 19th then sees a tiered round robin, followed by a knockout stage.
The Fantastic Fours tournament has now become the biggest ball hockey tournament in the UK, and sees 24 different teams participate. The group draw took place during the Lancers v Millionaires league fixture on the 12th February, and saw the Knights placed in the same group as; Katem Ninjas, Tayside Thunder, Northumbria Sharks 2, Long Eaton Thunder and former weekend winners, London Jets.
Last year, the Knights had a hard time on the Saturday, and only registered one goal throughout the whole day. This year’s tournament promises an equally difficult Saturday for the team, who face some very experienced and decorated oppositions. Whilst the results remain in the balance, one thing is for certain…there will be some fantastic hockey in display over the weekend.
Head Coach David Grant is positive going into the tournament this weekend “The F4’s is a great chance for all of us to forget the league campaign and enjoy hockey for what it is. This year we’re taking up a decent squad to Gateshead, and we will give ourselves the best chance of progressing through the group stage and as far into the tournament as we can.
Spirits are good in preparation for this tournament, and many of the team are looking forward to hitting the road Friday evening to get to the tournament”
The Knights results will be updated via Twitter as and when possible over the weekend, so make sure that you are following @SheffKnights to keep up to date with them.
