David Stafford Memorial Trophy – Everything you need to know

August 30, 2019

Tomorrow is the first ‘game day’ of the 19/20 season – and we start with one of the more eagerly awaiting dates in the calendar – the David Stafford Memorial Trophy.

The day isn’t about whether you are a member of the Knights, the Steelers, the Millionaires, the Dekstars or whichever team you play for, it’s about playing the sport and remembering a beloved friend of the Ball Hockey community.

The big aim of the day is in raising money for the British Heart Foundation, and as we go to print the event has already raised over £1600 in online donations – which is truly a magnificent effort from an event played by a minority sport (so well done to all of our players and everyone who has supported our players fundraising) – BUT WE DON’T STOP THERE…………

So before you set off to Simply Skate Arena tomorrow, here are some things you need to know about tomorrow:

  • Entry to the event is £2 a person. Please see our front desk for payment where you’ll receive a wrist band as proof of payment. Please make sure that you find them, they don’t bite (honest….)
  • The first game is 11:15am but we strongly advise that you are all there for 11am – we will be starting the day with a special presentation that we guarantee that you’ll all want to see (tissues are advised to be brought with you at this stage)
  • We will be holding a raffle during the day. Ticket costs are £1 a ticket, £3 a strip and £5 for two strips. Prizes include a Family ticket from the Sheffield Steelers, gift vouchers from Cross Check Clothing and Five Guys, a free jersey of choice from Jersey Barn and a personalised jersey from the tournament. We will have an updated list of prizes at the rink, but some great prizes are on offer.
  • The British Heart Foundation are doing a collection drive of which they’re looking for all clothing/electronic/a n other items which can be donated to the British Heart Foundation. If you are able to bring anything – please make sure they are delivered to the BHF desk before 11am.
  • Photos – if you come along take plenty of photo’s – the more the merrier. Everyone is giving up their time to take part in the event, and all hockey players want photos of them looking like they know what they’re doing – so please take away and share them on social media (Our Facebook and Twitter Handles will be at the end of this article)
  • Pick a team – Last time we gave you festive characters to support, this time we’re giving you rugby teams from the home nations. Pick whichever team and give them loud support.

Tomorrow will be a fun day, it’s brought the Ball Hockey community together in the UK to raise money for a worthy cause, and to remember a fallen member of the Silver and Blue – we hope that you enjoy yourself too
